asheville shopping

Whether you just moved into the neighborhood or you’re a lifetime Ashville resident, you can never be too in-the know
about the best happenings in the city. Asheville is well known for its active arts scene and proximity to the
Blue Ridge Mountains, but did you know some of the region’s best shopping also makes its home in Asheville?
These are just a handful of the top places to shop in this North Carolina gem.

Screen Door

Screen Door is a 25,000-square foot space featuring more than 100 vendors offering seasonal antiques and other
vintage items. The vast selection of home and garden furnishings and décor span modern, industrial and country
styles. Screen Door also houses a bookstore that provides a large selection of books at 50 percent off publisher
prices. Be sure to check the Screen Door website, as hours vary depending on the season.

Malaprop’s Bookstore and Café

Calling all book lovers – Malaprop’s Bookstore and Café is a sizable local bookstore in downtown that has
something for just about everyone, including gifts, fun stationary, coffee and other beverages and, of course,
plenty of books. The bookstore frequently plays host to a wide variety of literary events – sometimes more than
one per day!

Woolworth Walk

Asheville’s Woolworth Walk is a privately-owned art gallery that features ceramics, paintings, glass, pottery and
many more mediums from more than 160 local artists. The gallery is set in the heart of downtown in the Historic
F.W. Woolworth Building. Local events and art shows are hosted at the Walk, in addition to the Asheville
Downtown Gallery Association Art Walks which occur on First Fridays from April through December.

Tops for Shoes

Tops for Shoes has been providing Ashville residents and visitors alike with premium footwear fashions from top
brands at the most affordable prices for over five decades. The downtown shoe store features men’s, women’s
and children’s dress, casual, athletic and comfort wear from brands like Adidas, Minnetonka, New Balance, Jeffrey
Campbell and Dr. Martens.

Asheville Outlets

Are you looking for a more all-encompassing shopping experience? The Asheville Outlets features more than 70
brand name and local retail stores, restaurants and specialty shops. Best of all, because it’s an outlet, many of the
shops feature name brand items at clearance prices. That includes stores like Nike, Gap, Zales, Coach and so many
others. Group tours and a calendar’s worth of events provide even more reason to visit the outlets.

Mast General Store

Downtown Ashville’s Mast General Store is a true throwback to a simpler time. The general store, which was
founded in the late 1800s, successfully recreates the vibe of a vintage general store, only it sells modern products
and has something for everybody. Shoppers peruse large selections of clothing, footwear, home furnishings, knick
knacks and plenty more from brands such as Patagonia, Yeti and Chaco.

Biltmore Park® Town Square

Biltmore Park Town Square offers a full slate of things do, including live entertainment, dining and, yes, lots of
national and local shopping opportunities. The outdoor plaza is home to big-name retailers like Barnes & Noble
and REI, but still has charming local apparel shops like Altar’d State, Francesca’s and Talloni: A Shoe Salon.

Historic Biltmore Village

What was once a community for people who worked at the adjacent Biltmore Estate is now a premiere
destination for retail stores, one-of-a-kind boutiques and restaurants. In addition to the unique shopping, village
visitors get an authentic feel for Ashville while exploring this city landmark. White House Black Market, London
District Studio, Chico’s and Southern Highland Craft Guild highlight the long list of retailers at the Biltmore Village.
